Bringing Music Classes to Koko Head Elementary
by Christina Tang
Koko Head Elementary School is celebrating an exciting milestone this semester—one rooted in community support and a shared commitment to well-rounded education. Through the dedication of Friends of Koko Head, students already benefit from specialty teachers in Art, Yoga, and PE, along with beloved, schoolwide events like the Halloween celebration and Keiki Carnival. These moments do more than bring joy; they help create a vibrant, connected school environment where keiki can thrive.
Thanks to successful fundraising efforts, Friends of Koko Head has secured a music teacher for the coming semester, bringing yet another enriching opportunity to our school. Looking ahead, the next focus is ensuring this program has what it needs to grow.
Funds raised from the upcoming Cobra Chase on January 30 will go directly toward purchasing musical instruments, allowing students to fully engage in hands-on music learning.
Music education plays a powerful role in a child’s development from kindergarten through fifth grade. It supports cognitive growth, strengthens memory and language skills, builds confidence, and encourages creativity and collaboration. For many students, music class is where they discover new ways to express themselves and connect with others—skills that carry far beyond the classroom. With continued community support, Koko Head Elementary is ensuring these opportunities remain accessible to every child.
