ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) AS A TOOL

During yesterday’s Principal Talk Story, Principal Dias spoke about AI and its use as a tool at our school. He shared the importance of balancing foundational skill development with future readiness.

Koko Head Elementary is currently developing an AI plan or approach which will include:

Foundational focus for grades K-3: developing and mastering literacy, numeracy, and original creative thought skills without a shortcut. AI may be used by teachers for planning and differentiation.

Literacy focus for grades 4 & 5: after foundational mastery, AI is introduced as a tool and students learn how to use it.

Principal Dias also shared parent tips/guidance for at home use:

  • Reinforce originality.

  • Prioritize privacy.

  • Be a fact-checker.

  • Encourage “hard work”.
